Personal Injury Collision in Osage County

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported a personal injury collision occurred about 3:11 p.m. Saturday on County Road 1701, about 3.7 miles east and 1.2 miles north of Osage, OK in Osage County.

The patrol said the accident involved a 2008 Honda Goldwing motorcycle driven by Michael Rice (SIC), 69, of Sand Springs, OK. Rice was transported by Hominy EMS to Cleveland Area Hospital; where he was then transported to Saint John medical center in Tulsa, OK, where he was admitted in stable condition for trunk external and head injuries.

A passegner in Rice’s vehicle, Margaret Rice, 68, of Sand Springs, OK was transported by Hominy EMS to Cleveland Area Hospital where she was treated and released for head and trunk external injuries.

The Highway Patrol’s report stated Rice’s vehicle was westbound on County Road 1701. Rice’s vehicle was attempting to negotiate a turn onto County Road 1705, when a gust of wind caused the vehicle to depart the roadway to the right. The vehicle traveled through a ditch before impacting a fence. The driver became separated from the vehicle and was drug approximately 200 feet before the passenger was able to stop the vehicle. The report notes that a helmet was in use by the driver, but not by the passenger. The condition of the driver was listed as normal and the cause of the collision was attributed to the weather.
