Early Thursday morning, GRDA Police Chief Brian Edwards requested the OSBI to investigate a shooting involving one of his officers.

OSBI sent investigative and crime scene agents to the scene, which was located approximately 1/2 mile east of Highway 62 on Parkhill Road.

A preliminary investigation revealed a GRDA officer had a short pursuit of a person driving a stolen vehicle. The stolen vehicle came to a stop when it crashed.

The GRDA officer fired one shot at the driver of the vehicle, who was identified as Marcus Allen Stopp, 25, of Tahlequah. There were no shots fired at the officer.

Stopp was treated for one gunshot wound to the neck area and released from the hospital. He is currently in custody at the Cherokee County Jail on charges related to the stolen vehicle.
