USGS records 2 small earthquakes in northwest Oklahoma

COVINGTON, Okla. (AP) – The U.S. Geological Survey has recorded three earthquakes in northwest Oklahoma, the largest with a preliminary magnitude of 3.7.
The USGS reports the larger quake struck at 10:07 a.m. Friday near Covington. A magnitude 3.1 quake struck two minutes earlier, and a 2.7 magnitude temblor was recorded at 10:21 a.m. in the same area about 56 miles (90 kilometers) northwest of Oklahoma City.
Garfield County Emergency Management Director Mike Honigsberg said there are no reports of damage or injury.
Thousands of earthquakes have been recorded in Oklahoma in recent years, with many linked to the underground injection of wastewater from oil and natural gas production. State regulators have directed several oil and gas producers in the state to close injection wells or reduce volumes.
