Ponca City Now - April 4, 2018 1:23 pm

The Ponca City Public Schools is hosting a prekindergarten and kindergarten informational meeting for parents of pre-k and kindergarten age students on Thursday, April 5. The purpose of the meeting will be to share pertinent information with parents of 4- and 5-year-old students who will be attending Ponca City Public Schools during the 2018-19 school year.

The two meetings will be held at the Washington PreK Center at 1615 N. Seventh Street. The PreK meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the Washington Gym and run until approximately 6:30 p.m. The Kindergarten meeting will begin at 6:45 p.m. in the Washington Gym and run until approximately 7:15 p.m.

Parking can be found behind the building on Little Lane, and parents are encouraged to enter the gym through the gym door off the parking lot.   During the meetings, parents will learn more about the goals and expectations of the early childhood programs in Ponca City. Parents will also be given information about registering students for the  2018-19 school year.

The PreK registration window will begin on April 9 and will close on April 26 at the PCPS Registration Center, 111 West Grand Avenue. Kindergarten students will register during the summer registration window to be released at a later date.

In order to attend PreK in the Ponca City Public School System, a student must turn 4 on or before Sept. 1. In order to attend kindergarten, a student must turn 5 on or before Sept. 1.

“If your child will be attending PCPS during the 2018-19 school year as a PreK or kindergarten student, the district highly recommends you attend these meetings,” said Teri Vogele, Director of Elementary Curriculum. “The administrators and teachers look forward to serving you and your child during these fundamental grade levels where important foundational skills are mastered in preparation for a student’s future academic career. Make plans to attend your child’s grade level meeting, learn more about your child’s early childhood program, tour the building, and receive information on how to prepare your child for their first academic experience.”
