Teachers descending on Oklahoma Capitol

The Associated Press - April 2, 2018 11:33 am

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) – Thousands of Oklahoma teachers are expected to descend on the state Capitol to demand lawmakers approve more funding for education. Teachers say they are going ahead with the rally because the increased funding approved by lawmakers is not enough and money is needed for support staff and classroom needs, including textbooks.

Gov. Mary Fallin signed legislation last week increasing taxes on cigarettes, fuel and oil and gas production to provide teachers with raises of about $6,100, or 15 to 18 percent.
