Kay News Cow reports that the start date for the Union Street bridge re-decking project is now June 6.
Union Street will be closed during the entire 90-day project.
During the project Union will be closed from Summit to Park and traffic will detour to the west to Oak Street. Highland will be closed while crews remove the deck and traffic will be detoured to Broadway. It could take up to two weeks for deck removal.
According to traffic engineering manager Mike Lane, the bridge is about 60 years old and that a mill and overlay project was started on the bridge in 2019 but halted because the top inch of the deck was crumbling as the milling machine went across it.
