A missing 5-year-old Rose Hill child was found in Tonkawa Thursday evening following a search by both the Kansas Bureau of Investigation and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

An Amber Alert was issued Thursday when it was reported an unidentified male subject and the child’s biological mother, who previously had her parental rights severed by the court, took the child from his school and left in a black Suburban before switching to a Volkswagen Jetta.

The Jetta was later located in rural Cowley County, but the suspects and the child were not located.

However, a lead from the KBI found the suspects had returned to driving the Suburban, which was located near the Pilot gas station in Tonkawa traveling south on I-35.

OHP Troopers stopped the vehicle and a male and female were taken into custody. The missing child was inside the vehicle and was found to be unharmed.

The investigation is still ongoing.
