March 7, 1935 – March 9, 2018

LaWanda French Longtime Ponca City resident passed away Friday morning, March 9, 2018 in Ponca City with her loving family by her side. She was 83 years of age. LaWanda was born on March 7, 1935 in Ponca City to Charles and Opal Boxley Grimley.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2018 in the Grace Memorial chapel with Pastor Dennis Wildman officiating. Interment will follow in the Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of Grace Memorial Chapel of Ponca City.

LaWanda grew up in Ponca City and attended the Ponca City school system graduating in 1953. She met the love of her life Don French and they were married on March 8, 1953 and they established their home in Ponca City. LaWanda worked for the City of Ponca City for over 20 years and during her employment she was the Cultural Center curator, and the Director of the Hutchins Memorial Center. During her spare time, she enjoyed spending time with her family, quilting, working in her flower garden and yard. She was also an accomplished oil and water color painter.

Survivors include; her husband of 65 years Don of the home, 2 sons; Ricky French and wife Kristine of Kinmundy. Illinois and David French and wife Linda of Ponca City, OK, 1 daughter; Donna Bodkin and husband Kendall of Hayden, Idaho, 1 brother: Jerry Grimley and wife Opal of Beebe, Arkansas, 2 sisters: Joyce Smotone and husband Marvin of Stillwater, OK and Jeanie Walker and husband Paul of Edmond, OK She is also survived by her 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

LaWanda was preceded in death by her parents, 1 brother; Charles Grimley and her faithful fur baby Misty.
