October 22, 1958 – February 24, 2018

Eddie Matt Childs, also called PaPa, was born on October 22, 1958 in Wellington, Texas. He passed away peacefully at his home in Ponca City on February 24, 2018 at the age of 59.

Eddie was the older of of 2 boys born to Matt Edward Childs and Janice Vernell Childs. He was preceded in death by both of his parents. Eddie is survived by his wife Pamela Kastner Childs of Ponca City; his son Matt Austin Childs and wife Meracle and precious grandson Ryder of Ponca City; his son Jordan Tucker Childs of Ponca City; brother Jimmy Childs and wife Susan of Altus, OK; in-laws Jan and Floyd Kastner of Altus, OK; sister-in-law Elizabeth Kastner Marcha of Altus, OK; and several nieces and a nephew and countless friends who were also considered as family.

Eddie Matt Childs graduated from Altus High School. He was the definition of an Altus Bulldog where he played on the football team and sang in the Varsity Choir. Eddie graduated from Altus High School in 1977. Eddie continued his education at the University of Oklahoma where he graduated in 1981 with a BS in Electrical Engineering. Eddie was Sooner born and Sooner bred. While attending OU, Eddie pledged and became a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity where he made life-long relationships with his Sig Alph Brothers. Eddie moved to Dallas, Texas, to work as an Electrical Engineer in Power Systems at TXU Energy. In 1984, Eddie married the love-of-his life and childhood friend Pamela Ann Kastner. Eddie held positions as an Electrical Engineer in Altus, Lawton, Ponca City, Anadarko, Oklahoma City, and Tulsa. Pam and Eddie made their permanent home in Ponca City, OK, where they joined the First Baptist Church and became members of their cherished Sunday School class First Baptist Adult Nine. Eddie acted as a Deacon of the Church. Eddie and Pam raised their boys in Ponca for 16 years where he was the Master of the Outdoor Grill and Chief Pool Cleaner. Eddie lived his life to the fullest with his contagious laugh and ornery grin. He never met a stranger. Eddie loved to go hunting with his brother and best friend Jimmy and his sons Austin and Jordan. Eddie loved the lake life. He and Pam grew up on Lake Altus at Hick’s Mountain where they boated and waterskied with family and friends. Eddie fought a courageous battle with glioblastoma, always wanting to go another round with his physical therapist. The family would like to thank the countless friends who visited Eddie.

A memorial ceremony to celebrate Eddie’s life will be held Thursday, March 1, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Ponca City with Brent McCoy officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.
