Special Needs Resource and Transition Fair Feb. 12

The second annual Northern Oklahoma Special Needs Resource and Transition Fair is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 12 at Pioneer Technology Center, 2101 North Ash.

The Transition Fair is an opportunity for parents, caregivers, and educators of children and adults with learning challenges and other special needs to discover some of the best resources Oklahoma has to offer.

The Transition Fair provides information to students with disabilities and their families about services available in Kay County and Oklahoma. As students prepare to move from public school education to life after high school, students may need support while attending college, technical school, job coaching, day care, or possibly respite care.

The purpose of the fair is to give parents/guardians information about these and other services that could support their child on his/her journey toward more independence.

At this time, there are over 20 vendors scheduled to be available to give information and answer questions regarding available services and resources. Two of these resources will have break-out sessions. The Oklahoma Department of Rehabilitation will have a 30 minute session beginning at 5:30 p.m. and the Oklahoma Department of Child Labor Law will begin their 30 minute session at 6:15 p.m.

It is never too early to start planning for life after public school. Parents/guardians of students in 8^th grade and above are strongly encouraged to attend the fair to gather information on services that may be appropriate for their son/daughter now and in the future.
