School district says marketing effort is a scam

The Ponca City Public Schools administration issued a release Wednesday reporting that a company named Sports Marketing Media has been contacting local businesses about advertising/sponsorship on products like shirts, cups and other items.

“Their letter states in part, ‘We are reaching out to you as a leading local business. I’m working with the high school cheer coach and we are getting geared up for the 2018 varsity football season.’ They have also indicated in the past that our district will receive a portion of the sales,” the release said.

“These statements ARE ABSOLUTELY FALSE!!! Our school district has NOT endorsed this company, so please do not give them any money.

“We have contacted the company and told them to cease all contact with local businesses and that they do not represent us nor are they approved to do so. Our school attorney will be contacting them as well,” the release said.

The Ponca City School district is committed to supporting and promoting our local businesses. If you have any questions, contact Mary Ladd, PCPS Public Relations Director, at (580) 352-4188 or Jared Freeman, PCPS Athletic Director, at (580) 767-8075.
