Phyllis Catherine Glenny

(March 14, 1920 – January 11, 2018)

Phyllis Catherine Glenny of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Thursday morning, January 11, 2018, in the Hillcrest Manor Nursing Home in Blackwell at the age of 88 years.

Phyllis Catherine Glenny was born on March 14, 1929, in Blackwell to Arthur John and Leila Inez (Welch) Fey. She grew up in Blackwell and attended Blackwell Public Schools graduating with the class of 1947. She furthered her education by attending Oklahoma A & M in Stillwater where she was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority and majored in music. On September 19, 1947, she married Ray Leo Glenny in Blackwell and they settled on a farm and assisted with the family farming operation. As a young wife and mother, Phyllis hauled wheat during harvest and gave it to those working on the farm. A natural caretaker throughout her life, she nursed many people including her parents, in-laws, uncle and husband. Her husband preceded her in death on October 12, 2008, and she continued to make Blackwell her home. She enjoyed playing the organ and loved to cook. Taking care of her family was her highest priority. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Blackwell.

She is survived by a daughter, Kristy Vowel and husband Bernard of Blackwell; a son, Stan Glenny and wife Sherry of Blackwell; two sisters, Marilyn Metzer and husband Bill of Tulsa, and Becky Davis and husband Gary of Ponca City; a daughter-in-law, Dee Glenny of Blackwell; nine grandchildren, Dylan Vowel of Stillwater, Bailie Vowel of Stillwater, Kyle Vowel and wife Ashlan of Enid, Justin Glenny and wife Jill of Blackwell, Brandon Glenny and wife Kim of Wichita, Kansas, Colby Glenny and fiancé Allie of Blackwell, Jefferson Glenny and wife Karen of Marietta, Georgia, Amanda Bradford of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and Sarah Ferretti of Firestone, Colorado; and numerous great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Jeff Glenny; a granddaughter, Megan Glenny-Martin; and a great grandson, Garin Glenny.

Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 16th in the First Presbyterian Church in Blackwell with Rev. Karen Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be Justin Glenny, Brandon Glenny, Colby Glenny, Dylan Vowel, Bailie Vowel and Kyle Vowel. Serving as honorary casketbearers will be Jefferson Glenny, Amanda Bradford, Sarah Ferretti, Arnetta Hudson, LaVerne Byler, Eddie Hembree and Elmore Bathurst.
