Ark City driver cited for inattentive driving after striking child

ARKANSAS CITY, Kan.  The Arkansas City Police Department cited an Arkansas City driver Wednesday after she struck a 4-year-old child with her vehicle, causing injury.

Ginda Alexander, 28, was cited for inattentive driving. She was driving a black 2004 Ford SUV.

The Arkansas City Fire-EMS and Police departments responded at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday to a report of a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Third Street and Walnut Avenue.

They found the 4-year-old had been struck by a vehicle southbound on Third Street. The child was walking home with a parent and entered the intersection, traveling east, at the time the accident occurred.

The child suffered minor injuries to the right foot from the impact and a bloody lip from falling after the impact. No damage was reported to the vehicle involved.

The victim was not transported by EMS, but was supposed to be taken by family for a medical exam.

The accident occurred one block east of Frances Willard Elementary School, 201 N. Fourth St.

This incident remains under investigation.
