Moulton released on $100,000 bond after fatal accident near Newkirk

Following the fatal accident that killed an Ark City teen Tuesday northeast of Newkirk, Walker Moulton was released on a $100,000 bond.

 

Moulton will appear in the Kay County District Court at 9 a.m. on November 5. Moulton, soon to turn 19-years-old in November, was booked Tuesday into the Kay County Jail on charges of DUI and first-degree manslaughter.

 

Moulton was the driver of a 2000 Jeep Wrangler that had a total of people inside. The Wrangler rolled and ejected two people Tuesday night before 11 p.m. on North Enterprise Road, south of E. Judo Road, several miles northeast of Newkirk.

 

The accident killed Rhett Lathers, 17, of Arkansas City, Kansas and sent Logan Bay, 18, an Ark City High School graduate to the Wesley trauma center in Wichita in critical condition with head injuries where he remains as of Thursday.

 

Harley Sparks, an 18-year-old senior at ACHS, was transported via a private vehicle to William Newton Hospital in Winfield where she was treated and released.

 

According to the OHP, seatbelts were not used by anyone in the vehicle. Moulton was not injured.
