Oklahoma veterans get free admission to first round of football playoffs

The Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association is allowing free admission for all Veterans to the first round of the football play-offs.  A veteran and one guest will be admitted free of charge, simply by showing their driver’s license, which has a seal indicating the person is a veteran.

If the individual has not renewed their license in the last couple of years, a Veteran ID card or any proof of identification is acceptable.

“It is our intention to encourage Oklahoma high schools to recognize veterans in conjunction with any school activities in the next couple of weeks,” said Van Shea Iven, Director of Media Relations for OSSAA.  “This is a great way to recognize those who have served our country and reinforce the importance of their sacrifices and the very meaning of Veterans Day.”

“Participation in this event requires as little or as much effort as a school district wishes,” Iven said.  “A simple acknowledgment would convey a powerful message of thanks on the part of the school and community in general.”

Veterans Day falls on Saturday, Nov. 11, this year, but the OSSAA will honor veterans on Friday, Nov. 10.
