Fire Hydrant Testing
Ponca City Now - October 9, 2013 9:13 am
The fire department will begin testing fire hydrants on Monday.
They will be doing annual flow testing between 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The testing may cause your tap water to be discolored.
To solve this problem run your water until it becomes clear.
Discolored water is not a health threat, but could stain clothes if they are washed in it.
These test are necessary because hydrants are constantly impacted by deterioration and changes in usage.
Flow tests will also determine what their capabilities would be during an emergency and could uncover mechanical problems.
Below is the schedule of where the fire department will be testing:
Monday: The area south of Hartford Ave. and west of Union St.
Tuesday: The area south of Highland Ave. between Union St. and 14th St.
Wednesday : The area north of Highland Ave. between Union St. and 14th St. and the area north of Hartford Ave. west of Union St.
Thursday: The area east of 14th St.
Hydrant testing will be done in about six weeks.
