ENID, Okla. (AP) – Voters in Garfield County have approved a measure allowing the sale of liquor on Sundays.
The measure was approved Tuesday by a vote of 4,089-1,863. The Enid News & Eagle reports that the new policy will go into effect once the election is certified – which typically happens by the Friday after an election.
The proposal was backed by Garfield County Advocates for Progress. Enid City Commissioner Tammy Wilson, who led the drive to get the petition on the ballot, says the change will attract more businesses to Garfield County and increase sales tax receipts.
Last year, Payne County also lifted restrictions on Sunday sales of alcohol.
