May 23, 1931 – October 20, 2017

Phyllis Ewers, former resident of Ponca City, passed away Friday, October 20, 2017 at Southern Oaks Care Center in Pawnee, Oklahoma. She was 86 years old.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Trout Funeral Home Chapel at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, October 23, 2017 with Pastor John Dickey of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Stillwater, OK.

Phyllis was born March 23, 1931 in Woodward, Oklahoma and was the youngest daughter of Clarence and Mable Brown.

She attended school in Nash, Oklahoma graduating in 1949 and was married to Max E. Ewers on September 18, 1949.

Phyllis and Max made their first home in Pond Creek, Oklahoma where they were blessed with the birth of twin daughters, Janet Rae (Jaime) and Judy Kae (Murray). Shortly thereafter, they moved to Ponca City were they established the family home in 1953. Phyllis was a homemaker in her earlier years while her family grew to include her son, Tony Max Ewers and daughter Kristi Ann (Cook).

Being a lifelong seamstress, Phyllis began working at Singer after all her children were in school. Her experience and skill with a sewing machine was a gift she generously shared with family and friends and she was quite skilled in the repair of sewing machines.

Later she changed her career path and returned to school to train as a Hair Stylist. She was again very successful and worked several years instructing and managing the Beauty Academy in Ponca City. Wishing to simplify her life, she opened her own Beauty Shop and continued as a private Hairstylist for several years until her retirement in 2004.

Also during her life, she created and landscaped beautiful gardens at the family home, passing this gift on to her daughters. She was a skilled artist with both restoring antique and creating unique dolls. She enjoyed traveling and camping with Max often staying weeks at a time in Colorado.

Phyllis is survived by daughter Janet Jaime and husband Reggie of Oklahoma City, OK; daughter Judy Murray of Wellington, KS; son Tony Ewers and wife Ellen of Woodstock, GA; daughter Kristi Cook and husband Wes of Ponca City, OK.; and sister, Glorene Kirk of Stillwater, OK.

She is also survived by Grandchildren Ashley Oliver, Wichita, KS; Richard Murray, Wellington, KS; Mysha Hillman and husband Jonathan, Tulsa, OK; Morgan Burkett and husband Casey of Dallas, TX; Dawson Ewers of Stillwater, OK; and Lyndsay Davis and husband Andy of Arvada, CO.

She was blessed with four Great Grandchildren, Ellarie, Everleigh and Emelia Hillman, and the anticipation of her fourth Great Granddaughter (Lyndsay & Andy Davis) in February 2018.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Max Ewers; Granddaughter Andrea Rae Murray; Brothers Rex & AC Brown; Sister June Johnston.

In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to “Physician’s Choice Hospice,” 14324 N. Western Avenue, Edmond, OK 73013.
