Motorcyclist dies after Pawnee County accident

A Terlton, Oklahoma, motorcyclist died after a Pawnee County accident at 2:18 p.m. Wednesday.

James McGovern, 65, was transported by Life Flight to St.  Johns Hospital in Tulsa, where he died of his injuries.

The accident occurred on Airport Road, a tenth of a mile north of U.S. Highway 412, two miles north and 1.5 east of Terlton. McGovern was riding a 2015 Harley Davidson northbound on Airport Road.

A 2005 Ford Taurus, driven by Zachary Adams, 30, of Terlton, was southboound on Airport Road at a high rate of speed, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported. Adams’ vehicle departed the roadway to the right, overcorrected coming back onto the roadway and struck the motorcycle. The car continued to the left, departing the roadway and coming to rest in a field.

The Highway Patrol’s report stated Adams was driving under  the influence of alcohol and the accident remains under investigation.
