Alice was born on June 13, 1946 in Honey Grove, Texas to her parents John William Birdwell, Jr. and Mary Elizabeth (Whitlock ) Birdwell. Alice was proud to be a Texan at heart even though she lived most of her life in Oklahoma. She spent many summers staying with her dear Aunt Ann, Uncle Shorty and Dumps. She would often reminisce about the many memories she had from those visits. Alice grew up in Paul’s Valley and graduated from Paul’s Valley High School, Class of 1964. In 1969, Alice graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from East Central State College. In 1969 Alice moved to Ponca City to be with her close friend Barbara Beckham. Shortly after moving to Ponca City she was hired for a secretary position at Conoco. She worked for 33 years before retiring from Conoco in 2002. In the Spring of 1972 she went on a blind date with a man who she would fall in love with. On November 18, 1972 she married the love of her life Gerald Lee Wilson at the First Baptist Church in Ponca City. The two of them remained extremely close throughout the next 45 years. She will be missed dearly by her husband and best friend Gerald.
Alice had a very warm, pleasant personality and liked everyone. Her aim in life was to be friends with everyone she came in contact with. The one friendship that stood out was the bond between her and Barbara Beckham. The two of them remained extremely close throughout her life. Barbara was like the sister she never had.
Alice had a true love of nature and enjoyed so much the deer, turkey, geese, squirrel, fox, and birds that would visit their yard in Ponca City. Another true love she had was traveling to attend Statler Brother Concerts. She truly enjoyed the music they performed. Alice and Gerald traveled to Salem, Virginia to attend the final concert of The Statler Brothers in 2002.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorial donations may be made in her honor to Hospice of North Central Oklahoma, 445 Fairview Ave., Ponca City, OK 74601.
