Head Of Okla. Sports Board To Testify At Hearing

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) – The head of the organization that governs high school sports in Oklahoma is expected to testify at a legislative hearing, one of several held to hear complaints and concerns about the group.
Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association executive director Ed Sheakley is among the speakers scheduled for Thursday’s meeting of the House Administrative Rules, Government Oversight and Repealer Committee.
Sheakley’s testimony comes two days after the Oklahoma Supreme Court in a 7-2 opinion chastised the OSSAA for acting in an "arbitrary and capricious" manner in its handling of a probe into a high school football player’s eligibility.
Slaughterville Republican state Rep. Bobby Cleveland requested the hearing and says he wants more oversight of OSSAA, which had an annual budget last year of $5.4 million.
