Public Power Week Oct. 1-7

Ponca City Energy is celebrating Public Power Week (#PublicPowerWeek), Oct. 1-7,
along with more than 2,000 other community-owned, not-for-profit electric utilities that
collectively provide electricity to 49 million Americans.

“Public Power Week celebrates the reliable, affordable electricity Ponca City Energy provides to our community,” said Phillip Johnston, PCE General Manager Public Utilities. “Public power puts the people of Ponca City first, and Public Power Week gives us the chance to emphasize the advantages of locally owned power to our citizens. Our service is reliable and safe, and we are happy that we have been serving our friends and neighbors in Ponca City since 1912.”

Ponca City Energy invites community members Customer Appreciation Day from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday,
Oct. 4, at City Hall, 516 E. Grand. Customers will have the opportunity to celebrate and receive:

• Hot, fresh popcorn, delicious Turtle’s Donut Shoppe cookies, ice cold water, safety and energy efficiency booklets, give-away-items, balloons, and Halloween safety kits for the kids.
• A free LED bulb, by answering a question, “What kind of electric utility is PCE?”
• A free Portable, battery-operated LED light switch by checking out the Public Power Display located at City Hall. (It will also tell you how to get your free LED Light Switch.)
• Customers who are young or young at heart can look like a PCE Lineman by placing their faces in the cut-out hole of the “lineman cutout” for photo fun.
• Oklahoma Municipal Power Authority (OMPA) give-away-items.

Ponca City Energy serves 200 square miles within the city and rural areas including McCord, Ranch Drive, White Eagle, and Kildare. PCE maintains 410 miles of overhead distribution lines, 65 miles of underground distribution lines, nine substations, 5,500 distribution transformers, and 19,000 utility poles.

Ponca City Energy’s Peak load is 104 Megawatts and normal Load is 40 Megawatts. It serves 13,918 residential customers and 2,002 commercial and industrial customers.

Public Power Week is an annual national event coordinated by the American Public Power Association in Washington, D.C. The American Public Power Association is the voice of not-forprofit, community-owned utilities that power 2,000 towns and cities nationwide. The Association represents public power before the federal government to protect the interests of the more than 49 million people served by public power utilities and the 93,000 people they employ. It advocates and advises on electricity policy, technology, trends, training, and
operations. Its members strengthen their communities by providing superior service, engaging
citizens, and instilling pride in community-owned power.
