Ponca City students above average on ACT scores

Ponca City Public Schools received their 2017 ACT scores this week, showing a composite score of 20.6. Ponca City scores continue to be above the state (19.4) average.

“We are pleased and proud that our students scored above the state average in all areas, particularly since we had so many more students taking the exam,” Superintendent of Schools Shelley Arrott said.  “Before the 2016-2017 school year, only college-bound students participated in ACT testing. The above-state-average scores are a testament to our diligent students and teachers.”

She said that all Ponca City High School juniors were offered the opportunity to take the ACT examination last year free of charge.

“This has given us valuable insight into achievement gaps,” she said.  “This insight allows us to adjust instruction to meet the needs of graduates so they are prepared for college coursework or to compete for jobs globally.  This year, all PCPS juniors will participate in taking the national college entrance exam.”

The ACT consists of curriculum-based tests of educational development designed to measure the skills needed for success in first-year college coursework. This report reflects the achievement of Ponca City graduates on the ACT over time and is an indication of the extent to which they are prepared for college-level work. The ACT tests educational development in English, mathematics, reading, and science.
