Norma Lee Kelley

April 22, 1920 – August 25, 2017

Our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Norma Lee Kelley, passed from this earth on Friday, August 25, 2017 in Tulsa.

She was born on April 22, 1920 in McAlester, OK. She attended Capitol City High School in Oklahoma City, graduating in May 1938. She took business courses and worked for Retail Credit, eventually working her way up to Assistant Credit Manager for Levy’s Department Store in Houston, TX.

Norma married James W. Kelley on September 29, 1940 at Capitol Hill Methodist Church. She lived in Tulsa, OK and Cambridge, MA and moved to Ponca City, OK in March of 1946 after her husband, a pilot in the USAF, was discharged. She moved to London, England in April of 1974, returning to Ponca City in December of 1979.

Norma was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ponca City, joining in December 1946. She taught Sunday School for 10 years, was the secretary of the Administrative Board, a member of the Alpha Child Study Club and served as President, a member of the International Club, holding various offices, a board member of Peachtree Landing, and on the Board of Trustees of Westminster Village. She and her husband were honorary co-chairmen of the First United Methodist Church’s 100th anniversary in 1993. She was a member of the P.E.O. Chapter E.L. and the Ponca City Rose Club. She volunteered at the Opportunity Center, Camp Fire and was a Blue Bird and Camp Fire Leader.

Her hobbies included playing bridge, reading, needlepoint, traveling to 31 countries and loving her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Kelley, her parents, Roy and Ethel Greer, and sister, Jean Pumford.

She is survived by her daughters, Nancy Peer (J.D.) of Mustang, OK and Sarah McGill of Sand Springs, OK; three granddaughters: Jennifer Combs (Michael) of Oklahoma City, OK, Cristin Martin (Lee) of Sand Springs, OK and Jessica Hesseltine (Kirk) of Piedmont, OK; two grandsons: David Klinger of Tulsa, OK and Joel Peer (Amanda) of Guthrie, OK; thirteen great-grandchildren; one niece: Diana Williams of Australia; one nephew: John Mehring of MN.

During her 97 years with us she brought love and laughter. She will be missed beyond measure.

A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church with Chaplin Tom Howard officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
