Frank Vassar Dyer II

(April 8, 1928 – August 26, 2017)

Frank Vassar Dyer II of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Saturday morning, August 26, 2017, at his home at the age of 89 years.

Frank Vassar Dyer II was born on April 8, 1928, in Blackwell to F. Vassar and Clotene Jayne (Shideler) Dyer. He grew up in Blackwell attending Blackwell Public Schools and graduated from Blackwell High School in 1946. He then furthered his education at Oklahoma A & M in Stillwater where he graduated in 1950 with a bachelor’s degree. He then entered the United States Army serving in a recon battalion during the Korean War and attained the rank of Sargent. He married Joy Kathryne Walker on June 15, 1953, in Konawa, Oklahoma, and they settled at Ft. Hood, Texas, where he was stationed. Following his discharge they moved to Blackwell where he entered into business with his father at West-Dyer Furniture Store. He continued the business until his retirement in 2000. His wife preceded him in death on October 1, 2014, and he continued to make Blackwell his home. He was an active member of the First Christian Church where he served as an elder, sang in the choir and assisted with the prison ministry. He was an avid golfer and spending time with the Tuesday night group.

He is survived by two sons, Frank Dyer III and his wife Gaye of Derby, Kansas, and Joel Dyer and wife Debbie of Blackwell; four grandchildren, Cy Dyer, Tyler Dyer, Laura Blanchard and Kathryne Baier; and nine great grandchildren, Hunter Dyer, Taylor Dyer, Jackson Dyer, Karsten Dyer, Teagan Dyer, Ben Baier, Charlie Baier, Will Blanchard and Camille Blanchard.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Lou Clark; and a son, Charlie Dyer.

Services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 29th in the First Christian Church in Blackwell with Rev. Jeff Koch and Rev. Kyle Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be Wes Childers, Wayne Whittington, Jack Hearst, Kyle Jones, Frank Dyer III and Joel Dyer. Honorary casketbearers will be the elders of the First Christian Church.

A memorial has been established in his honor with the First Christian Church Youth Group in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
