A Federal Grand Jury sitting in Oklahoma City  has returned an indictment in the murder-for-hire case of  Danielle Dana Layman of Ponca City.

The indictment was returned by the Grand Jury this week.

An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt.  Each defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the government must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

The formal charge is Use of Interstate Commerce Facilities in the Commission of Murder-for-Hire.

In July, Layman waived her preliminary hearing and was released from federal custody on house arrest.

Layman was arrested June 30, accused of engaging an individual to travel to Israel for the purpose of administering ricin to  her former husband. Ricin is a poison created from castor beans.

The witness asked to participate in the scheme was given a packet of ricin, along with codes and instructions, according to an affidavit filed in the case.

The FBI conducted a search of Layman’s home in Ponca City on July 3.
