The Ponca City Police Department reports 34-year-old Carlos Bernabe is in custody following a stabbing Saturday.

Bernabe was living with his uncle and his uncle’s mother at 217 South Oak in Ponca City. A 911 call was received at approximately 1:50 p.m. Saturday reporting that Bernabe was having some type of medical condition and requested an ambulance.

The reporting party called right back and said that Bernabe was stabbing someone inside the house. Officers arrived at the home two minutes later, took Bernabe into custody and requested an ambulance for two victims.

Terry J. Phillips, 61, received multiple stab wounds. Phillips’ 91-year-old mother was injured in the attack when she attempted to separate Bernabe and her son. Jane Phillips was transported to Alliance Health Center in Ponca City and was treated and released.

Terry Phillips was transported by ambulance and then flown to OU Trauma Center in Oklahoma City. He is now in critical but stable condition.

Bernabe is being held at the Kay County Detention Center on a complaint of domestic assault with a deadly weapon.

Online court records show Bernabe has several prior convictions in Kay County for domestic assault and aggravated assault and battery.
