Earl Gilbert Krieg

October 1, 1937 – July 27, 2017

Earl Gilbert Krieg, age 79, lifelong resident of Ponca City, Oklahoma, passed away Thursday, July 27, 2017 in Enid, Oklahoma.

Friends and loved ones may pay their respects at the Trout Funeral Home from 3-8pm Sunday, July 30, and 8am-8pm on Monday, July 31. The family will be present to greet friends from 6-8pm on Monday. A ceremony to gratefully remember his life will be held at 2:00 pm, August 1, 2017 at the First Lutheran Church in Ponca City with Pastor Jeremy May officiating. Following the ceremony, he will be laid to rest at the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Ponca City. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.

Earl was born on October 1, 1937 to John Michael Krieg and Sophie Emma Buerger Krieg in Ponca City, OK. In 1955, Earl graduated from Ponca City High school before attending NOC and ultimately receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree from OSU. After college, Earl went to work for City Service/Sequoyah refinery, and ultimately Conoco where he worked in the filter house and the lab, retiring after 34 years of dutiful service. He was very proud of the fact that because of his dedication and service Conoco called him back to serve as a contract supervisor for remediation. The discipline of Tai Chi captured Earl’s interest at the YMCA. He studied much embracing the practice and philosophy. As a well-rounded man, Earl enjoyed the arts, including learning piano and attending plays. His hands would often stay busy toiling in his garden, babying his banana trees and growing quality produce. Community service was another important element to his character. His giving of resources and time were noted as a long time member and president of the Osage Water Board, working with the 101 Ranch Old Timers Association and serving the homeless in our community. Since life isn’t fun without some measure of risk, Earl found success making smart investments in private ventures, real estate, and oil & Gas. Most important to Earl, however was his deep faith, and serving at church. On Nov. 28, 1937, he was baptized and confirmed on March 18, 1951. As an active member in the First Lutheran Church, Earl served in multiple capacities including as an elder, choir member, social ministries and other committees as the church needed. Earl’s love of his faith was also evident in the research he about the histories of the Church, including collecting historic documents for preservation.

Survivors include his beloved brother Robert Krieg and wife Rena of Enid, OK; nieces and nephews: Mike Krieg and wife Terry of Stillwater, OK, Mark Combest and wife Pam of Enid, OK, Susan Kissinger and husband Glenn of Denver, CO, and Danny Krieg of Denver, CO; special great nephew Carson Combest of Ponca City as well as many other great nieces, great nephews, church family and friends.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents, brother Harold John Krieg and his wife Violet, as well as his nephew David Krieg.
