The Oklahoma State Department of Health is reporting 359 new positive COVID-19 cases for Tuesday, Feb. 23. Oklahoma has seen 420,212 COVID-19 cases overall dating back to last March. The number of active COVID-19 cases dropped by 1,013 from Monday as there are 14,040 COVID-19 cases active statewide on Tuesday.
A total of 24 virus-related deaths were documented Tuesday to put Oklahoma’s death toll at 4,227. This includes a Kay County female from Ponca City in the 65 or older age group.
Kay County saw three new COVID-19 case on Tuesday, putting the county’s stats to 5,052 COVID-19 cases, 75 deaths and 4,822 recoveries. There are currently 155 active cases in the county, which is 11 less than Monday.

As for new cases in local counties, there are 11 for Payne, seven for Washington, four each for Garfield and Osage and two each for Grant and Logan. There are no new COVID-19 cases for Noble and Pawnee counties. Data for local counties is posted below:

OSDH is reporting nearly 1,000 more recoveries on Tuesday rather than new COVID-19 cases as there are 1,348 new recoveries. Oklahoma’s recovery total is now at 401,945. In order for a recovery to count, the recovered patient must not be deceased or hospitalized and it has been 14 days since their report.
There have been 681,466 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine administered in Oklahoma and that there are 204,069 completed series. The number of prime doses given is 477,397. There have also been 492,625 prime doses allocated and 400,925 boost doses allocated.

As of Monday, Feb. 22, the Oklahoma State Department of Health is starting to vaccinate the next high risk priority groups outlined in phase 2.
This includes:
- Oklahomans under 65 with comorbidities.
- Teachers and Staff in Pre-K-12 schools and educational settings.
Comorbid conditions outlined in the plan include but are not limited to hypertension, obesity, cardiovascular disease, Down syndrome, diabetes mellitus, chronic lung, liver or renal disease, cancers and those who are at high risk of mortality and severe morbidity resulting from a COVID infection.
The Kay County Health Department said in a recent Facebook update that they have chosen an overlapping approach to Oklahoma’s COVID vaccination plan. Though they’re moving forward with providing the vaccine to Pre-K-12 teachers and staff as well as Oklahomans with comorbidities, the vaccine is still available to those included in earlier phases, such as healthcare workers, people 65+ and LTC staff.
