May 8, 1935 – June 29, 2017
Phyllis Jo Vice died peacefully in Ponca City, Oklahoma, on June 29, 2017 at the age of 82.
A memorial ceremony to celebrate her life will be held at 10:00am Monday, July 3, 2017 in the Chapel at Trout Funeral Home & Crematory with Stuart Powell Officiating. Following the ceremony, she will be laid to rest privately in the Hochatown Cemetery, Hochatown, OK.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Felix Dale and Lorene Davison Dale Penner, step dad Hulen Penner, step brother Deryle Penner, step sister Wanda Penner Webb, sister in law Kay Dale and grandparents Jim & Omie Davison.
Phyllis is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Winford Vice. They were married December 11, 1954 and through the years made many wonderful memories together.
Phyllis has five children: Billy Glenn (Bill) Vice of Ponca City, OK; Debra Sue (Debi) Vice Climer of Euless, TX; Richard Allen (Rick) Vice and daughter in Law Patricia Vice of Atoka, OK; Robert Henry (Robby) Vice and daughter in law Lola Vice of Collinsville, OK, and Diana Marene Vice Been of Superior, CO; 15 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Phyllis is survived by; two brothers Billy Paul (Bo) Dale and Glenn (Red) Dale, sister in law Mary Dale, a very special aunt Lettie Penner and a life long dear and special friend Joyce Hughes Legon. Joyce has remained in Phyllis’s life since childhood to this day.
When asked what are some of the things you want people to remember about you, she said first of all, how nice and sweet she was to her children and that she was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother. Anyone who knew Phyllis, knew she was famous for her smile, her love for everyone and her courage. She was always glad to see you and gave big bear hugs whether you wanted them or not.
Phyllis was born May 8, 1935 in Hochatown, OK to Felix and Lorene Dale. Phyllis graduated from Broken Bow High School in May of 1953. On December 11, 1954, Phyllis married a very handsome sailor and the love of her life, Winford Vice. Phyllis worked in printing for a while but she loved working as a CNA and retired from Home Health care in 1999. She worked with many who were in hospice and was there for many of them when they took their last breath.
Phyllis attended and was a member of Eastern Heights Christian Church of Ponca City, Oklahoma. She had a very blessed life and gives all the glory to God. Along with the many blessings, she had a fun life. She has visited all 50 states plus many countries. She loved to play music and played the guitar and sang with a bluegrass group as well as a country and western group. There were many times after church the group would get together and sing and play for hours.
Sewing and quilting was another hobby that she truly enjoyed and anyone who has seen her quilts will agree she made some of the most beautiful quilts in the world.
