Pioneer life focus of Saturday’s Family Fun Day

The Pioneer Woman Museum will host Pioneer Life Day on Saturday, June 24, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. as part of the museum’s summer program, Pioneer Family Fun Days.

The day will include a variety of hands-on and make-and-take activities that kids and adults would have experienced during everyday pioneer life.

“This is our fourth year to offer summer programs for families and we think this may be our best year yet,” said Museum Director Robbin Davis. “Each week we have a different theme and activities that go with that theme. This week for Pioneer Life, we wanted families to experience those things that the typical pioneer family might have done. For example, going to the grocery store every day wasn’t an option, so making your own butter or bread was something that often the mother or older daughter would do.”

Saturday’s activities will feature educators from the Oklahoma History Center in Oklahoma City giving instruction on a variety of pioneer life skills while wearing period clothing.

“I don’t want to give away too many surprises, but I promise the kids and the adults will have a good time,” Davis said.

The cost to participate is minimal, with families of up to five people joining the fun for only $5. The activities are designed so that participants can come and go from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Each week’s activities are preplanned and more information can be found at www.facebook.com/PioneerWomanMuseum. Most activities are appropriate for ages 6 and up, and everyone is welcome.
