December 26, 1933 – June 8, 2017
Charles A. (Alexander) Norman, resident of Ponca City, Oklahoma, passed away Thursday, June 8, 2017 in Ponca City, Oklahoma, at the age of 83.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at the First Christian Church with The Reverend Larry B. Metzger officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Monday, June 12, 2017, at Trout Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home and Crematory.
Charles was born the son of Dr. George R. Norman and Helen Alexander Norman on December 26, 1933. He was the second of two sons.
He grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, completing his BA Degree at the University of Tulsa, and his Masters Degree at Oklahoma State University.
He worked as a teacher in the Tulsa Public Schools for several years. He then worked for the U.S. Forest Service as a Guidance Counselor at Golconda CCC Job Corps and Pine Ridge Job Corps Center, completing his Forest Service career.
Charles married Betty Jean Marbry Willey Mechling, a Golconda Job Corps Librarian, after retiring. They were married in Chadron, Nebraska, where they lived for three years. They then moved to Ponca City, where they were active at the Ponca City Senior Center enjoying the companionship of other senior citizens.
He was a member of the Ponca City Masonic Lodge #83 and a former member of the Tulsa Scottish Rite Masons and Akdar Shrine. Charles enjoyed these organizations and their missions.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, George R. Norman, his step son, Michael Conrad Willey, his sister in law, Peggy Wells Norman, and his nephew, John W. Norman.
Charles is survived by his wife of the home, Betty Jean, and his step children: M. Candice Camp Paul, Cameon Willey, Terry Mechling, and Cynthia Sturbe, and also his nephew Robert Norman.
