Ponca City man injured in accident Monday afternoon

An 18-year-old Ponca City man was injured in an accident about 1 p.m. Monday west of Ponca City.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported the accident occured on South Avenue near “U” street, three miles west of Ponca City in Kay County.

Darrell Arita, 18, was driving a 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe westbound when he lost control, went into a broad slide for 165 feet and left the roadway to the right, the Highway Patrol reported. The vehicle then rolled twice, coming  to rest on its wheels. The driver was ejected about 30 feet west of the vehicle.

Arita was transported by Ponca City EMS to AllianceHealth Ponca City Hospital, where he was admitted in stable condition with arm and leg injuries.

The Highway Patrol’s report said he was traveling at a speed that was unsafe for road conditions. The report also said he was not wearing his seat belt.
