The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported a fatality collision occurred about 3:12 a.m. Saturday on County Road Lawson, about 1/10 of a mile south of County Road McElroy, which is about 4/10 of a mile north of Yale, OK in Payne County.

The patrol said the accident involved a 1997 Chevy Pickup driven by Matthew Baird, 20, of Yale, OK. Baird was pronounced dead at the scene with whole body injuries.

The Highway Patrol’s report stated Baird’s vehicle was southbound on Lawson Road. For an unknown reason, Baird’s vehicle drifted off the right side of the roadway impacting a guard rail. Baird’s vehicle then rolled 2 ¼ times coming to rest in a creek bed on driver side. The driver was ejected in the roll event and pinned underneath the vehicle. Baird was pinned for approximately 90 minutes and extracted by Cushing FD, no special tools used. The report indicates that seatbelts were not in use. The condition of Baird at the time of the accident is unknown and the cause of the collision is still under investigation.
