ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. The Arkansas City Police Department arrested a Winfield man early Monday morning on drug charges and a warrant at a local convenience store.

Robert Eugene Baker, 39, was arrested on suspicion of possession of drug-sale paraphernalia, possession of methamphetamine and possession with intent to sell methamphetamine within 1,000 feet of a school. All of these offenses are felonies.

He also was wanted on a Sumner County District Court warrant for probation violation, with no bond.

Baker was transported to and booked into the Cowley County Jail in lieu of $22,500 bond through Cowley County District Court in Arkansas City. He remained in custody at the time of this release.

Officers were dispatched at 4:37 a.m. Monday for a report of a man who had fallen asleep at a table at Casey’s General Store, 601 S. Summit St., causing an open knife to fall from his pocket to the floor.

The man was contacted and identified as Baker. A check for wants and warrants turned up the active warrant from Sumner County. He was taken into custody and a search of his person ensued.

Police located a syringe, baggies, a scale with drug residue and a small tin containing a sizable amount of methamphetamine in Baker’s pockets, along with cash. The items were seized as evidence.
