(June 20, 1920 – May 17, 2017)
Hazel A. Corneil of Blackwell, Oklahoma, passed away Wednesday evening, May 17, 2017, in the Hillcrest Manor Nursing Home at the age of 96 years.
Hazel A. Corneil was born on June 20, 1920, in May, Oklahoma, to Robert Glen and Mabel Irene (Hall) Stanley. She attended Blackwell Public Schools and graduated from Blackwell High School with the class of 1937. Following her education she married Eugene Burns Corneil on March of 1938, in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, and they settled on a farm north of Nardin before moving to a farm southwest of Blackwell. In 1951 they moved again and continued farming wheat and raising cattle. Her husband preceded her in death on June 16, 1983, and she maintained the farm until 2002 when she moved into Blackwell to make her home. She was a member of the First Christian Church where she was active in the Christian Women’s Fellowship. She also held membership in the Alko Club, Domestic Science Club, Eastern Star, various bridge clubs and FFA Mother’s Club where she was awarded Honorary Chapter Farmer. She served as a Blackwell Regional Hospital volunteer for over thirty years. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, dancing and traveling. Her greatest love came from being a farmer’s wife and caring for her family.
She is survived by two daughters, Connie Sue Finley and husband Gary of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Joan Corneil of Tampa, Florida; a son, David Corneil and wife Stacy of Blackwell; a son-in-law, Ed Urban of Blackwell; grandchildren, Cindy Urban Oard and husband Tracey, Wendy Urban Evans and husband Steve, Tim Urban and wife Lynn, Tracie Finley McCall and husband Glen, Tisha Finley Wertzberger and husband Chris, Ryan Finley and wife Courtney, Jarrod Dyer, Jason Dyer, Ty Corneil and wife Stacey, and Mindi Corneil LaBlue and husband Terry; great grandchildren, Michelle Johns and husband Adam, Danielle Menke and husband Thomas, Jennifer Oard, Melissa Evans, Ashley Heitschmidt and husband Zack, Kyle Urban and wife Jessica, Tiffany Stanford and husband Ryan, Kayla Urban, Kelsea Wertzberger, Rylea Wertzberger, Ian McCall, Finnegan McCall, Owen McCall, Madison Corneil, Hadleigh Corneil, Jakob LaBlue, Grace LaBlue and Lillie LaBlue; and great great grandchildren, Keelee, Kaden, Karter, Adilynne, Max, Halle, Brylea, Trysene, Braden, Emmit, Ryder, Harper, Karri and Karter.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Glenda Urban; an infant son; a sister, Glennis Stanley; three brothers, Bob, Walt and Dallas Stanley; and a grandson, Will Urban.
Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 22nd in the First Christian Church in Blackwell with Rev. Jeff Koch officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olive Cemetery in Nardin.
Honorary casketbearers will be Ed Urban, Bill Shumate, Glen Stanley and JoDel Shepherd. Serving as casketbearers will be Tim Urban, Ryan Finley, Jarrod Dyer, Jason Dyer, Ty Corneil and Kyle Urban.
A memorial has been established in her honor with the First Christian Church or Ross Hospice in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Sunday, May 21st from 4:00-6:00 p.m.
