ARKANSAS CITY, Kan.  The Arkansas City Police Department is looking for a man who is suspected of aggravated assault in connection with an incident Monday afternoon.

The suspect is described as an African-American man wearing a black tank top and possibly jean shorts. He is in his mid-20s and has bushy hair. The suspect’s vehicle is a black Dodge Dakota Sport.

Officers responded about 4:42 p.m. Monday to a disturbance reported in the 1600 block of North Summit Street. One of the individuals involved was armed with a blunt object, they determined.

That person still was at the scene and reported that the other party involved possessed a firearm.

Police searched for the other person involved, but were unable to find him. They determined that during the altercation, he apparently had brandished a firearm toward the person with the blunt object.

This case remains under investigation and police have not yet determined the identity of the man with the firearm. Anyone with further information is asked to call Arkansas City Police Department Sgt. Eric Mata at (620) 441-4444.

Those wishing to remain anonymous may contact Cowley County Crime Stoppers, which offers rewards of up to $2,000 for information leading to an arrest.
