A caller to the Ponca City Police Department reported at 12:43 p.m. Thursday that a 3-year-old boy was in a back yard in the 300 block of South Peachtree with the family’s dog. The caller said  the dog seemed to be aggressive with the child.

Officers found the child in the back yard and called for Animal Control to respond for the dog.

Officers were able to get the child out of the yard and away from the dog. The boy was temporarily taken into protective custody and suffered only minor scrapes. Officers contacted the Department of Human Services and the boy’s aunt assisted his parents at the police station.

The juvenile returned home with his parents and officers  took a report on the incident. DHS and the boy’s aunt will continue to monitor the situation, police spokeswoman Sherry Bowers said.
