Edmond Police Department spokeswoman Jenny Wagnon said Thursday that a 17-year-old boy who was arrested near Blackwell Tuesday night is suspected in the killing his stepmother, 54-year-old Katherine Bryant.

At 12:45 p.m. Thursday, the Oklahoma County Court Clerk’s office said the boy has not yet been charged in the case.

The teen was arrested by Blackwell Police officers at 11:52 p.m. Tuesday. His name is not being released because of his age.

The woman’s death occurred at the family home in Edmond, near the University of Central Oklahoma. Her death was reported shortly before 9 p.m. by her husband, who had just returned to the home.

Shortly before midnight, Blackwell Police were notified that the suspect was southbound on Interstate 35 from Braman. Officers arrested the boy at 12:13 a.m. Wednesday, one mile south of the Blackwell exit on I-35.

The suspect was released to Edmond Police officers at 1:50 a.m. Wednesday.

Wagnon said the boy told police he had hit his stepmother in the head with a baseball bat. He said she was unconscious and he dragged her into the garage and then shot her in the head with a rifle.
