OKLAHOMA CITY  – The Five Civilized Tribes of Oklahoma have partnered with the Oklahoma State Department of Education, U.S. Department of Education, Bureau of Indian Education and the National Indian Education Association to offer a historic, collaborative engagement workshop from 1 to 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 5, at River Spirit Casino Resort in Tulsa.

The passage of the Every Student Succeeds Act provides unique opportunities for tribes, states and districts to work together to strengthen education for Native students throughout Oklahoma.

Oklahoma has more Native children in its public schools benefiting from Title dollars – 130,000 – than any other state in the country. This workshop will foster collaboration and develop strategies to address ESSA requirements and the consultation process in Oklahoma.

Acting Assistant Secretary of Education, Monique Chism, along with Acting Director for the Office of Indian Education, Bernard Garcia, and State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Joy Hofmeister, will be among the speakers.
