Pregnant woman dies in 2-vehicle collision in Oklahoma City
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) – A pregnant woman has died following a two-vehicle collision on Interstate 40 in far western Oklahoma City.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says 20-year-old Ashlyn N. Byers of Yukon was killed in Thursday’s crash. Troopers say Byers, a passenger, was six months pregnant and her child was delivered after she was pronounced dead.
The patrol says two other passengers, 20-year-old Jennifer Vantil and 21-year-old James A. Amway, survived.
The patrol says the crash occurred at 7:43 p.m. in Canadian County. The victim was in a car that troopers say was westbound on I-40 when the driver lost sight of the roadway when an improperly secured hood popped up.
The patrol says the vehicle then slowed down and veered to the left, when it was struck by a tractor-trailer truck.
