Jerry Wayne Quinn of Claremore, Oklahoma, died Friday morning, March 10, 2017, in the Claremore Veterans Hospital, Claremore, Oklahoma, at the age of 68 years.
Jerry Wayne Quinn was born on September 3, 1948, in Atchison, Kansas, to Marion Russell and Rosella May (Voorhees) Quinn. At the age of four his family moved to Blackwell, Oklahoma. He attended Blackwell Public Schools and graduated with the class of 1966. After graduation Jerry attended Northern Oklahoma Collage. He worked part time at the Blackwell Journal while in school. He was an active member of the United States Navy until July 4, 1971 and was honorably discharged from the United States Naval Reserve on June 1, 1976. He returned to Blackwell and attended Oklahoma State University. He married Carol Sue Purdy on January 26, 1973 in Blackwell, Oklahoma. Upon moving to Bartlesville, he started working for Bartlesville Examiner Enterprise in 1973. In 1976, he became the manager of the Wewoka Times. In 1978 he became the manager and later the publisher of the Holdenville Daily News. He was the Publisher of the Chickasha Express in 1985-1987. In 1987 he became the publisher of the Okmulgee Daily Time. He finished out his career as the Publisher for the Bartlesville Examiner Enterprise. In each town he lived in, he served on the board of directors of the Chamber of Commerce, serving as president several occasions. He was also active in the Rotary Club for 35 years. Jerry became a member of the Oklahoma Press Association in 1976 and was honored to have served as the President in 2000-2001.
He is survived by his wife Carol Sue Quinn of Owasso,; one daughter, Karen Sue Inman and husband Brian Lee of Owasso; two sons, David Wayne Quinn of Jones, and Robert Dean Quinn of Owasso; three grandchildren, Seth and Braydon Inman of Owasso and Quincy Quinn of Owasso; and two brothers, Jim Quinn of Muskogee, and Tom Quinn and wife Lu of Tulsa.
A memorial services is scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Thursday, March 16, 2017, at the Redeemer Lutheran Church, Claremore, Oklahoma, with Pastor Mark Burger and Pastor Miles Schultz officiating. Interment services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Friday, March 17, 2017, at the Blackwell Cemetery, Blackwell, Oklahoma.
Honorary bearers will be Jim Cary, Dwaine Johns, Bob Franklin, David Godard, Seth Inman, Braydon Inman, and Quincy Quinn.
