A car collided with a freight train shortly before 7 a.m. near Union Street and Albany Avenue.

A vehicle-train collision was reported this morning at 6:54 a.m. at the Albany crossing.

The woman driver was transported from the scene by ambulance to the Alliance Medical Center with extensive injuries. She was flown by helicopter to OU Children’s Medical Center.

The driver, 20-year-old Yvonne Adams, was stopped on Albany at the railroad tracks on the east side. The crossing arms were down.

A north bound train was stopped on the tracks, and Adams went around the crossing arms. The passenger side of her vehicle was struck by a south bound train.

The crossing on Prospect is open, but all other railroad crossings north of Highland in Ponca City will remain closed for several hours.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe, the Ponca City Police Department along with the National Transportation Safety Board are all investigating.
