Bernard Mark Drowatzky passed away on January 10, 2017 in Kaw City, Oklahoma. He was 83 years old. Bernie was born in Wichita, Kansas to his parents, Karl Mark and Juanita (Jones) Drowatzky. The family moved to Blackwell, Oklahoma where Bernie graduated from Blackwell High School.
On May 27, 1961 he married Dora Ann Drowatzky in Blackwell, Oklahoma. Together they had five children. Bernie was enlisted in the United States Air Force and earned the National Defense Service Medal during this time. Bernie made his career by working in law enforcement. He retired from the Wichita Police Department as a Captain in September 1986 after 20 years of service. There, he played a crucial role investigating several high-profile cases. Later, he became the Under Sheriff of Kay County and continued on to become the Chief of Police in Kaw City.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dora Ann, his parents, and one son, Mark Wayne Drowatzky.
Bernie is survived by his son, Kevin Drowatzky, daughter, Debbie McMurry, son, Bill McMonigle, daughter, Debra Trueblood, 13 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. A funeral ceremony for Bernie will be held at Trout Funeral Home & Crematory in Ponca City, Oklahoma on Tuesday, January 17, 2016 at 2:00 p.m.
