Kenneth Stephen Levings
(May 6, 1935 – January 1, 2017)
Kenneth Stephen Levings of Blackwell died Sunday morning, January 1, 2017, at his home at the age of 81 years.
Kenneth Stephen Levings was born on May 6, 1935, in Three Sands, Oklahoma, to Stephen Hudson and Audrey Mae (Harris) Levings. He grew up in Kay County and attended rural schools before graduating from Braman High School in 1953. He married Carolyn Jo Haunschild on June 4, 1954, in Braman and they settled in Blackwell where he worked in the oilfields. In 1957 they moved to Wichita, Kansas, where he worked for Boeing Aircraft for a year. They returned to Blackwell and he worked for Kay Electric Cooperative as a lineman before moving into the office. He later worked as superintendent of utilities for the City of Blackwell. In 1978 he began Ken’s Auto Supply in Blackwell and owned and operated the business for nearly twenty-five years. His wife preceded him in death on March 12, 2014, and he continued to make Blackwell his home. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Blackwell. He also held membership in the Kiwanis Club, the Jaycees, and the Jeep Club. He enjoyed jeeping with his jeep club family, playing guitar with the praise band and the Mellotones, camping, skiing and boating, and working on cars and jeeps. He also enjoyed attending the First Free Will Baptist Men’s Bible Study.
He is survived by his mother, Audrey Levings of Blackwell; two daughters, Cindy Tillman of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Kelly Coffey and husband Brad of Blackwell; a sister, Shirley Wilson and husband Don of Norman, Oklahoma; a sister-in-law, Janice Brewer and husband Keith of Blackwell; four grandchildren, Ryan Coffey and wife Kristen of Tonkawa, Ashley Hedges and husband Rob of Tonkawa, Kara Smith of Tonkawa, and Laura Beth Tillman of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; three great grandchildren, Bailey, Caden and Tate Coffey of Tonkawa; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his father.
Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 6th in the First Church of the Nazarene in Blackwell with Rev. Herb Berkley, Rev. Kevin Bookout and Rev. Kelly Coffey officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.
Casketbearers will be Ryan Coffey, Mark Brewer, Brad Coffey, Rob Hedges, Richard Braden and Tony Gilky. Serving as honorary casketbearers will be Jerry Harlan, Cliff Wilkins, Keith Brewer, Jim Roach, Larry Jones, Pat Adams, Bob Coffey, Kenny ¬¬¬¬Waggoner and his jeeping family.
A memorial has been established in his honor with the First Church of the Nazarene in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
