Several puppy scams in Oklahoma have prompted a consumer alert from the Better Business Bureau of Central Oklahoma.

The Oklahoman reports that the local branch of the nonprofit has received numerous complaints regarding scams being run by companies that claim to operate out of the state.

Officials say some people have nearly paid $1,000 for puppies they never received.
