Bonnie Mae Nimerick

(March 2, 1938 – December 10, 2016)

Bonnie Nimerick, longtime resident of Ponca City, passed away December 10, 2016 in Ponca City. She was 78 years of age. Bonnie was born on March 2, 1938 in Pawnee, Oklahoma, to Arthur “Pat” and Nettie.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm, Wednesday, December 14, 2016, at Sunset Baptist Church in Ponca City. Burial will follow at Longwood Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home.

Bonnie was raised in Pawnee, Oklahoma. She graduated from Pawnee High SChool in 1955 and attended Tulsa Business School.

On December 12, 1955, she started work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Pawnee. She transferred to the Ponca City office in June of 1957. She worked for Southwestern Bell for twenty-two years before retiring in 1978.

While in Pawnee, Bonnie met and married Elton W. Nimerick on May 10, 1957.

Bonnie was a member of Sunset Baptist Church and has taught Sunday School in pre-school and 1st-6th grades. She worked several years as a teacher with Mission friends. She was also involved in PTA at Washington School.

Bonnie was a member of ABWA (American Business Women’s Association) since September 1969 and was chairing and serving on several committees. She held all elected office of ABWA. She was a delegate for the Ponca Chapter of ABWA at the National Convention in Minneapolis, MN. During her year as President, the chapter was awarded the “Star” Award, the highest award given to a chapter. Bonnie was Woman of the Year in 1990 and in 2000. She enjoyed helping young girls receive scholarships for college and all the friends she made.

Survivors include: husband, Elton, of the home; daughter Melinda and husband Robert Dexter of Ponca City, twin grandsons Brad Dexter of Oklahoma City, and Matt Dexter and wife Amanda of Houston, TX, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son Bret Nimerick, grandson Kyle Dexter, three brothers, one sister, and five nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mission Friends at Sunset Baptist.

The family is very appreciative of Ponca Nursing and Rehab and Humanity Hospice for their compassionate care and support and walking with us in Bonnie’s final journey.
