Carl Cartlidge – Veteran

April 30, 1939 – December 6, 2016

Carl R. Cartlidge of Ponca City passed away Tuesday morning December 6, 2016 at his home with his family by his side. He was 77 years of age. Carl was born April 30, 1939 in McAlester, OK to Dave and Verdie Douglas Cartlidge.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 10, 2016 in the Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery with Pastor Kyle Megenity of Newpoint Church officiating. Honorary Casket Bearers are Eugene Cartlidge, Ron Cartlidge, Jared Cartlidge, Jones, Jorian and Kanian Khan, Kyle Megenity, Jeremiah Payne, Mike and Leo Osborn, Eddy, Harley & Alan Sasnett and Doug Flink. Arrangements are in care of Grace Memorial Chapel of Ponca City, OK.

Carl grew up in McAlester and his family moved to California when he was a young man. He graduated from high school in Tulare, CA in 1958. Carl served his Country with honor joining the US Army in 1959 based out of Fort Ord, CA. Carl served two tours of duty in Vietnam with the 546th MP CO, 4th Army. Carl married the love of his life Muriel J. Osborne, also from McAlester and a girl he had known since childhood on October 6, 1961 in Visalia, Ca and they made their home in California. Upon his honorable discharge from the US Army in November 1964 Carl continued his law enforcement career in California with the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office. He moved his family to Oklahoma in early 1970 to work with the Lindsay PD, Ponca City PD and then to the Kay County Sherriff’s department. At the time of his retirement from Criminal Justice Law Enforcement he was the Under Sheriff of Kay County. Not suited to sitting around the house Carl then took a job as the head of security for the Ponca City St. Joseph Regional Medical Center a position he held for more than a decade.

Carl was dedicated to his family and he loved spending time with Family, grandkids and great grandkids. He also enjoyed going on fishing trips and reading.

He is survived by two children, Renee Khan and husband Jones, of Katy, Texas, Robert Cartlidge and wife Tonya, of Ponca City; two siblings Eugene and Ron Cartlidge of Tulare, CA; Five Grandchildren, Lauren Payne, (Husband-Jeremiah), Cheyenne Megenity, (Husband-Kyle), Jared Cartlidge (Wife-Megan), Jorian and Kanian Khan; Seven Great Grandchildren, Luke, Madilynn and ”baby” Megenity due in May 2017; Sawyer Baker and Scarlett Payne, Avalynn and Clara Cartlidge. Additional cherished survivors include in-laws: Nadine Bennett, Shirley Ford, Leo Osborne, Mike Osborne, Judy Rhodes, Eddy Sasnett , Harley Sasnett and Families.

Carl is preceded in Death by his dear wife of 53 years, Muriel, his parents Dave and Verdie Cartlidge and his sister Carol Garrett of Tulare, CA.
