Dorothy “Dottie Mae” (Hutton) Mehler formerly of Braman, Oklahoma, died Tuesday, November 29, 2016, in the Integris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City at the age of 88 years.
Dottie Mae Hutton was born on June 11, 1928, in Wichita, Kansas, to Raymond Walter and Viola Grace (Wood) Hutton. She grew up attending Braman Public Schools until her junior year of high school when she transferred to Blackwell High School. She also completed Ponca City Beauty Academy during this time before returning to graduate from Braman High School in 1947. Following her education and beauty training she opened Dottie Mae’s Beauty Shop above the Pollyanna Dress Shop in downtown Blackwell. She married Donald Eugene Mehler on December 22, 1950, in Blackwell. She later moved her business to East Blackwell Ave. before moving to North First Street where she sold her shop in 1999. She later worked part-time for several longtime patrons. In 2014 she moved to Guthrie, Oklahoma, to be near her son. She was a member of the Braman Christian Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed attending her children’s sporting activities and watching various sports on television. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by a daughter, Donna Campbell and husband Dean of Braman; a son, Gale Mehler and wife Helen of Guthrie; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren with a seventh great grandchild to arrive in spring of 2017; sister in law; Alma Hutton; brother in law, Melvin Mehler; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband on September 20, 1978; her parents; three brothers, Hugh, Harold and Leonard Hutton; four sisters sister, Helen Jean Scott, Dorothy Hutton, Ruth and Lori Mehler; and two grandsons, Terry Wiggins and Travis Campbell.
A memorial service is scheduled for 3:00 p.m., Saturday, December 3rd in the Braman Methodist Church with Rev. Trish Harris officiating. Burial will take place in the Braman Cemetery.
Honorary escorts to aunt Dottie will be Ron Hutton, Harold Hutton Jr., Dennis Hutton, Danny Hutton, Eddie Hutton and Jon Mehler.
