Oklahoma House Republicans reaffirm pick for new speaker

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) – Oklahoma House Republicans have elected new leaders for the upcoming session, including reaffirming Atoka Republican Charles McCall as their pick for House speaker-elect.

House Republicans on Tuesday also voted for Rep. Harold Wright of Weatherford as the No. 2 leadership post in the House, Speaker Pro Tempore-elect.

After last week’s elections, House Republicans now have a 75-26 majority, its largest in state history. The caucus includes 25 new Republican House members.

Other leaders selected on Tuesday include Rep. David Brumbaugh of Broken Arrow as caucus chairman.

Over the next several weeks, Speaker-elect McCall will determine how House committees will be structured and appoint chairmen and vice chairmen.

Senate Republicans also were meeting Wednesday to formally elect new leaders.
